About Georgetown Fire Department

 

  Georgetown Township Fire Department covers 36 square miles protecting 46,000 people. We consist of 3 fire stations with locations on the west , south and east sides of the township. Full time staff include: the Chief, fire inspector and maintenance man on duty Monday -Friday 8am-5pm. Our medical response is run by Ottawa County Sheriff department with one full time paramedic unit on 24/7 and the fire department as back up if the Sheriff unit is tied up. Our department ran a total of 665 fire calls between all three stations for 2005.

Fire chief

Dan Hamming is the fire Chief of the Georgetown Township Fire Department following the tradition his dad started as chief in 1957. Dan joined Georgetown in 1977 as a firefighter at station 1 and worked his way up to Lieutenant in 1989, promoted to Captain in 1993, later he was promoted to Deputy chief in 1996. In March of 2005 he was hired as Chief of Georgetown Fire Department. Dan has been serving his community for over 29 years as a firefighter, Officer, and Fire Department leader.

Deputy Chief

Doug Poolman took over as Deputy Chief in 2005 as a former Captain and Lieutenant his years of experience have greatly benefited Georgetown township.

Safety Officer  

Steve Dewindt Started out at the original fire station in Georgetown and is still there today. Promoted to Safety officer in 2005  his responsibilities have increase  to over see all  three stations operations at all major incidents.

 

Station 1

  Located at the corner of 1415 14th Ave and 44th St.  Station 1 covers the south side of the township and boarders Jamestown, Hudsonville, and Grandville. Station 1 is made up of a one truck , one engine and a squad. This station consists of 16 paid on call firefighters, 1 Lt. and 1 Capt.-More

Station 2

  Located at the corner 7518 Church St.  This station boarders Grandville, and Allendale Township. Station 2 is home to two engines, a squad and the dive rescue team. This station consists of 15 paid on call firefighters, 1 Lt. and 1 Capt.-More

Station 3

  Located at 7480 36th Ave  near the corner of 36th Ave and Baldwin on the west side of Georgetown Township. Station 3 borders Blendon Township, Allendale Township and Hudsonville. Housed at this station are two engines and a brush truck along with our Insulation removal trailer. This station consists of 16 paid on call firefighters, 1 Lt and 1 Capt.-More

Woman's auxiliary

We have a host of firefighters wife's that make up our women's auxiliary team. They provide drinks, snacks, and other essentials when we are called out for extended periods of time. Our hats go off to our ladies for everything they provide!!

Emergency Services
 

This is a group of volunteers that help us on extended operations. Some of their responsibilities include watching downed wires, providing signs for flooded roads, cones, helping with traffic control.  A big thanks to Bruce and the crew for all they do.

Dive Rescue

Dive rescue team consists of  10 divers and 10 support members. The dive team covers 187 sq miles including mutual coverage of Allendale, Blendon, Jamestown, Zeeland, Robinson and Marne.

 

 Car Seat checks

Station 2 is where we perform car seat checks and provide parents assistance in installing car seats. The second Tuesday of every month we check seats from 10am -1pm by appointment only. Check here for more information and to sign up for an inspection.-more
